Programs and Services

The Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter provides a wealth of community programs and services which are described below:

Helpline and Information Referral — A telephone service that provides emotional support to the caller as well as information about Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, chapter services, and community resources. They also maintain updated information on community resources such as home care, adult day care, care coordination, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, eldercare lawyers, financial planners, and transportation. Additionally, they can help individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families assess whether a specific care provider can meet their individual needs.

Family Care Consultation — Our Care Consultants are experienced professionals who work with families, assisting caregivers in planning and caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related disorder. They provide expert guidance, helping families to make informed decisions as they cope with the progression of the disease.

Support Groups
— Peer- or professionally led groups for caregivers and others dealing with Alzheimer’s disease are another chapter-provided service. Specialized groups are available in many locations for children, individuals with early-onset or early-stage Alzheimer’s, adult caregivers, and other groups with specific needs.

Education — We maintain a wealth of educational materials (brochures, videos, audiotapes, books, etc.) on topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders — basic information about these conditions, getting a diagnosis, communication techniques, home safety tips, choosing a residential care setting, experiences of other caregivers, activity programming, etc. We also offer a variety of ongoing educational programs targeted to specific audiences — the general public, individuals with the disease and their families, and health care and social services professionals — as well as customized speaking engagements upon request. Some educational programs offer continuing education (CE) or continuing medical education (CME) credits.
