Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to meet your schedule and your skills. Take the time to browse our list. We are always open to suggestions. If you have a unique talent you would like to share with us, email the Volunteer Coordinator with your ideas.

Telephone Helpline Specialist - Helpline is a key community resource and service of the Alzheimer’s Association. Volunteers respond to telephone calls from the community regarding Alzheimer’s Disease and related issues. Callers may need referrals to appropriate community resources or help with behavioral issues. Often callers may just need a sympathetic listener who can empathize with caregiver stress and frustration. Professionals are always available at the Chapter to support volunteers with complex problems and crisis situations. Volunteers are required to complete a Helpline Volunteer Application and attend an orientation and periodic Helpline Inservice Updates.

Support Group Leader - Monthly caregiver groups provide participants with a place to discuss problems, share concerns, exchange information, and lend each other emotional support. Volunteer Support Group Leaders with experience in group facilitation, knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and relevant experience are sought. Support Group Leader volunteers receive 6 hours of training with periodic Inservice Updates.

Community Education - Volunteers attend community events and Health Fairs distributing written materials regarding Alzheimer’s disease, Chapter resources and services. Volunteers will respond to questions from the community related to the disease and services available.

Mailings Volunteers are needed to process bulk mail. This includes stuffing, labeling, sealing and sorting letters and educational materials for distribution to the community. Training is provided to all Volunteer Teams.

Speakers Bureau - Volunteers speak to community groups and organizations about Alzheimer’s disease and related topics. Volunteers will receive training and materials to use during presentations. Experience with public speaking is helpful.

Clerical and Office - Volunteers provide assistance in the Chapter office by answering the telephones, filing, doing computer entry, preparing information packages and printing or copying materials.

Special Events - Volunteers are needed for pre-event committee work and event day logistics at special events hosted by the Alzheimer's Association throughout the year. We also organize special corporate volunteer days and family volunteer opportunities.
